| The Art
of the Solo is a showcase of solo choreography by dance
greats of the 20th Century. This extensive spectrum traces
the contemporary oeuvre back to its heritage in Vaudeville
and turn-of-the-century Burlesque.
As art reflects life and its time and place, so does each
solo reflect the ideals and principles of the choreographer,
from:
- the ultimate libertine, Isadora Duncan
- the perfumed exoticism favored by Ruth St. Denis
and Ted Shawn
- the illusions of Loie Fuller
- the radicals Anna Sokolow and Mary Wigman
- to the great American dance pioneer Doris Humphrey
Directed by Mino Nicolas, The Art of the Solo features
a network of professional artists whose own lineage can be
traced back to the choreographers. Their authentic and vivid
performances give credence to each solo. (See Featured

for his 30 year devotion to the works of American dance pioneer
Doris Humphrey and is credited with recovering over ten of
her works which were deemed lost to the annals of dance history.
