The Art of the Solo 2007
7:00 pm
Baltimore Museum of Art
Baltimore, Maryland
Following last year’s highly successful solo program, THE ART OF THE SOLO returns to the Baltimore Museum of Art for its second season featuring a diverse showcase of modern dance solos by legendary choreographers of the twentieth century.
Works on the program include the revival premiere of José Limón’s first solo, TWO PRELUDES, restaged by Artistic Director Mino Nicolas in agreement with the José Limón Dance Foundation. This solo depicts Limón’s early penchant for design and dynamics. The Limón solo is presented as a centennial tribute to the choreographer.
Also on the program are Isadora Duncan’s DANCES TO CHOPIN, Ruth St. Denis’ RADHA (revival premiere), Doris Humphrey’s THE CALL AND BREATH OF FIRE, Murray Louis’ FRAIL DEMONS, Hanya Holm’s HOMAGE TO MAHLER, Alwin Nikolais’ SORCEROR and the revival of Loie Fuller’s magical FIRE DANCE. (Program subject to change without prior notice.)
By popular demand, Ruth St. Denis’ INCENSE, Mary Wigman’s WITCH DANCE, Pola Nirenska’s EXUBERANCE, and Ted Shawn's PRIEST OF KNOSSOS will be repeated from last year’s program.
